Fla. Gov. Crist Names Joshua Williams of Miami Beach as Governor’s Point of Light for Black History Month

TALLAHASSEE /Florida Newswire/ — Governor Charlie Crist today recognized Joshua Williams of Miami Beach as this week’s Governor’s Point of Light for Black History Month. “Joshua has an innate sense of goodness and passion for helping others in his heart. He is truly making an impact in South Florida,” said Governor Crist. “Joshua is proof that, at any age, getting involved in the community and helping others can make a difference.”

At age 5, Joshua recognized that hunger existed in his community. In response to this misfortune, Joshua created Joshua’s Heart, a foundation committed to ridding world hunger, beginning with South Florida families. Joshua, now age 9, is active in fundraising efforts and raising awareness, often appearing on local and national television broadcasts to discuss his foundation’s mission. Joshua’s Heart feeds over 400 families each month.

Joshua has received many awards for his work including the Miami Children’s Hospital “I Make A Difference Award,” the City of Miami’s Do the Right Thing Award, and the National Point of Light Award. For more information about Joshua’s Heart, please visit www.JoshuasHeart.org.

AAA Auto Club South is the supporting sponsor of the Governor’s Points of Light Award. Walt Disney World is an in-kind supporter. This program recognizes Florida residents who demonstrate exemplary service to the community. Award recipients are announced weekly. A panel of judges comprised of leaders in the areas of volunteerism and service evaluate all nominations and make recommendations to the Governor. The Volunteer Florida Foundation manages the program. For more information, or to submit a nomination, go to www.VolunteerFloridaFoundation.org.
