Calif. Governor Brown Announces Appointments for July 24, 2012

California Gov. Brown 2012SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments: First, Jim Butler, 47, of Elk Grove, has been appointed chief procurement officer, deputy director of procurement at the California Department of General Services, where he has served since 2008.

Butler was director of procurement services at Levi Strauss and Company from 2002 to 2007, senior manager at Dell Computer Corporation from 1996 to 2001 and manager of client support at Asia Pacific Ventures from 1993 to 1996. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Brigham Young University and is a certified professional of supply management. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $149,496. Butler is registered decline-to-state.

Donald Chang, 59, of Sacramento, has been appointed assistant chief counsel at the California Department of Consumer Affairs. Chang has served in multiple positions at the California Department of Consumer Affairs since 1979, including supervising attorney, supervising counsel and staff counsel I, II and III. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $119,496. Chang is a Democrat.

Sheral Gates, 56, of Sacramento, has been appointed deputy director of the Real Estate Services Division at the California Department of General Services. Gates has served in multiple positions at the California Department of General Services since 1989, including chief of the professional services branch, chief of the real estate leasing and planning section, assistant chief of real estate leasing and planning and senior real estate officer. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $127,368. Gates is a Democrat.
