Governor Schwarzenegger Appoints Eight to Los Angeles County Superior Court

SACRAMENTO, Calif. /California Newswire/ — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today announced the appointments of Stephanie M. Bowick, Henry J. Hall, Ralph C. Hofer, Renee F. Korn, Stephen M. Moloney, Randall F. Pacheco, Olivia Rosales and Gary Y. Tanaka to judgeships in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Bowick, 46, of Pasadena, has worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District where she has served as an assistant general counsel since 2001. Previously, she served as a deputy city attorney for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office in 2001, the San Francisco City Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2001 and the San Diego City Attorney’s Office from 1990 to 1993. Bowick was a litigation associate for Barrack, Rodos & Bacine from 1993 to 1996, Berman & Clark in 1990, and Mills & Schroeder in 1989. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Howard University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Bowick fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Joe W. Hilberman. Bowick is registered decline-to-state.

Hall, 58, of La Crescenta, has served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 2007. From 1994 to 2007, he served as a head deputy alternate public defender for the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender’s Office and, from 1977 to 1994, Hall was a deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California. Hall fills the vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position on September 23, 2008. Hall is a Democrat.

Hofer, 56, of San Marino, has served as a partner for Blecher & Collins since 1986. Prior to that, he was an assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice from 1983 to 1986. Hofer was a litigation associate for Bryan Cave from 1982 to 1983, Blecher Collins & Hoecker from 1981 to 1982 and Ball Hunt Hart Brown & Baerwitz from 1978 to 1980. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Darlene E. Schempp. Hofer is a Republican.

Korn, 44, of Los Angeles, has served as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since 1990. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Korn fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Rodney G. Forneret. Korn is a Democrat.

Moloney, 60, of Arcadia, has served as an associate then senior partner for Gilbert Kelly Crowley & Jennett since 1975. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the Santa Clara University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University. Moloney fills the vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position on November 17, 2008. Moloney is a Republican.

Pacheco, 60, of Westminster, has served as a commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court since 2001. Prior to that, he worked as a head of a law firm within the Children’s Law Center from 1991 to 2001 and was a deputy public defender for the Orange County Public Defender’s Office from 1981 to 1991. From 1978 to 1981, Pacheco was an associate attorney for Newman, Chrisman and Faith. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Riverside. Pacheco fills the vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position on September 30, 2008. Pacheco is a Democrat.

Rosales, 43, of Whittier, has worked as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office since 1995 and previously served as a deputy attorney general for the California Attorney General’s Office from 1992 to 1995. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. Rosales fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Robert Schnider. Rosales is a Republican.

Tanaka, 46, of Rancho Palos Verdes, has served as a deputy county counsel then senior deputy county counsel for the Los Angeles Office of the County Counsel since 2006. Prior to that, he was a deputy alternate public defender for the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender’s Office from 2001 to 2006 and a deputy public defender for the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office from 2000 to 2001. From 1991 to 2000, Tanaka was an associate for Astor & Phillips. He earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Western State University College of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from Western State University Tanaka fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Kenneth A. Black. Tanaka is a Republican.

The compensation for each position is $178,789.
