Horrific Halloween Costume Contest Launched by Ruth Roberts Music

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — Goblins, ghosts, werewolves, witches, princesses, pirates, and more will be shouting “Trick or Treat” at parties and at your front door this October 31. The outfits will range from mild to wild, but all will cause proud parents to snap photos of their costume-clad kids. In addition to going into scrapbooks, the pix will be posted online and the Ruth Roberts Music page on Facebook is welcoming them for the “Horrific Halloween Costume Contest.”

“The contest is open to anyone in the U.S. and the only rule is that the photo be suitable for all ages,” states Susan Nicoletti, Director of Operations for Goldenrod Music, the publishing company that oversees Roberts’ songs. After her five years of serving on the Motion Picture Assn. of America ratings board, she is very aware of what is “G-Rated.”

To enter, simply upload a JPEG to the Ruth Roberts Music page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/RuthRobertsMusic .

“There will be individual winners who will receive the iTunes album of Ruth Roberts’ ‘Halloween Songs That Tickle Your Funny Bone,’” Nicoletti says, “plus there will be one grand prize winner where the school of the winning entrant will receive the entire catalog of Ruth Roberts songs on iTunes.”

Roberts is known for her work with legendary kids TV personality Capt. Kangaroo and was also one of the most consistently successful songwriters from the 1940s through the 1990s. Every sports fan knows some of her work, from “Meet the Mets” to “It’s a Beautiful Day for a Ball Game” to “Mr. Touchdown, USA.”

“Beatles fans probably know that the Fab Four recorded ‘Mailman Bring Me No More Blues,’ which is on the ‘Anthology 3′ album. But they may not realize that song was written by Roberts,” Nicoletti points out. “That song was also recorded by Buddy Holly, Oliver Nelson, and Lefty Frizzell,” Nicoletti adds.

Creator of songs in virtually every genre (pop, rock, blues, gospel, country, sports, children’s), Roberts made a name for herself with love songs. Her romantic ballads and playful up-tempo tunes often hit the charts with recordings by such popular recording artists as Dean Martin, Theresa Brewer, Jimmy Dean, The McGuire Sisters, Patti Page, Debbie Reynolds, Vic Damone, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen and Eydie Gorme. Movie and TV viewers have heard Roberts’ songs in “Yes Man,” “The Benchwarmer,” “A Dirty Shame,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Seinfeld,” and Conan O’Brien.

Influenced by Broadway shows she saw as a teen-ager, Roberts also wrote full-length and elementary school mini-musicals which appeal to the “Glee” fan in everyone. Teachers and educators can discover more about her musicals written for a K-through-grade-6 curriculum by visiting the Michael Brent Publications website at michaelbrent(dot)com.
